Due to my chosen title of 'how different artists represent time' I had to explore a manner of different techniques. Both eye-catching and powerful in their own way. Tom Hussey and Christopher Martin both use entirely different methods and settings for their pieces but they both link to my title very closely. Whilst Tom Hussey uses more of a reflection back on time technique Christopher Martin uses the technique of time running by. The energy of both pieces is the first thing noticeable. Tom Hussey's photographs have a very still and calming sense to them, they make you study each image with a careful eye for detail noticing every facial expression and background object. This contrasts completely to the busy and hectic work of Christopher Martin. His images make you focus on one point and everything else seems energised and panicked. This reflecting back compared to the noisiness are what interested me on artists different responses to time. The other thing noticeable is the planning and editing that has gone into each set. Christopher Martin uses more spontaneity and goes out to capture things as they are with an idea of what he would like to capture. This contrasted to the planned composition, lighting and models in Tom Hussey's images are a factor of the different outcomes. You can gather Christopher Martin relies more heavily on the editing process by making a good photo into a well produced image whether Tom Hussey relies more on the actual power of the original image using strong backgrounds and capturing powerful emotion. This along with a not so dependant editing process with just a few enhancements and placing of the figures which has been carefully planned. |
